Same-sex Pedestrian Light

Pedestrian lights designed to celebrate diversity

Eight green pedestrian lights at a traffic intersection in Canberra’s city have been changed from a “walking man” to walking same-sex couples.

Selected pedestrian lights around the city precinct have been changed in order to better recognise the diversity of the community and the different characters of its places. The lights function like any standard pedestrian crossing signal but they have marked an important crossroad in Australia’s history, coinciding with the first anniversary of the same-sex marriage postal survey results.

Formswell were approached by the City Renewal Authority in Canberra to make this project come to life and provided manufacture of the new lights.
