Laneway Waste Enclosures

Revitalising Canberra city laneways

Formswell Design were approach by the Australian ACT Government to provide a design solution for a waste congestion problem in two of the Canberra city centre laneways in an aim to bring new life to the space and provide more attractive options for activation and temporary events.

The  solution was a shared waste enclosure that reduced the 80 waste hoppers congested across the two laneways to a total number of a dozen and keeps them from public view. The waste enclosure was designed to be beautiful, durable and functional for day to day use.

The waste enclosures are a part of a wider city renewal scheme which may lead to possible expansion to other courtyard areas of the city if it succeeds.
